Standard on the new Golf and Jetta, cruise control adds a little extra comfort to your drive. In the right conditions, it manages your speed on your behalf, letting you focus on the road ahead instead of glancing down at your instrument cluster. Needless to say, cruise control is an indispensable tool for long trips down California’s coastal highways and through its most scenic regions. So, how does it work? Read on for a quick step-by-step guide to using cruise control in a new Jetta or Golf!

Relaxed Cruising at the Push of a Button

Turning on cruise control for your 2017 VW Golf or 2017 VW Jetta is easier than you might think! Plus, you can keep the system on stand-by for as long as you’d like, which comes in handy during road-trips near Huntington Beach. The first step is prepping the cruise control system; to do this, simply press the on/off button that resembles a mini speedometer icon. Now, you’re ready to set your preferred speed. Press the “SET” button to select a cruise speed.

Before you initiate the system, be sure you’re in a safe environment, such as an open highway. Avoid activating the system in heavy traffic or harsh weather. Modifying your preset cruise speed is simple. Press the “+” or “-” button to increase or decrease speed by 1 mile per hour. When you’re finished using the system, apply the brakes or push the “CNL” button to “cancel.” Hit the “RES,” or “resume” button to reactivate the system when you’re ready to use it again.

Why Use Cruise Control?

Using cruise control gives you the freedom to sit back and enjoy highway travel without constantly double-checking the speedometer. When traveling down California’s many open highways, it’s easy to get lost in the scenery and forget about speed limits. Using cruise control helps you adhere to a set cruising speed for as long as the system is active. Not to mention, cruise control keeps engine RPMs stable and consistent, which leads to improved fuel economy.
